Christians can obviously sing by themselves, and even go to Christian concerts to hear good performances. What is unique about the local church worship is that we are allowed, and even commanded, to sing to one another. The New Testament seems to envision a sort of “ministry” that happens through the congregational singing of church members. The defining mark of our worship will be the voices of the people, responding to the self-revelation of God. We sing a variety of music from traditional psalms and hymns to modern worship songs.
